In the first half of 2007, Nevesbu designed and engineered for Bluewater International the structural ship's integration of a Soft Yoke Mooring System for an FSO. The vessel, which will operate in the Caspian Sea, is owned by a Russian oil company. The mooring system is being designed and supplied by Bluewater International.
Soft yoke mooring is used to moor a ship to a turret on a fixed platform (Mooring Tower) piled to the sea bottom. The 'turret' part of the Mooring Tower can rotate around a vertical axis. The Soft Yoke, consisting of two pendulum arms, pivots around a horizontal axis on the rotating part of the Mooring Platform. The yoke arms are suspended from a cantilever structure on the ship.
Skilful engineering is necessary to design an adequate and efficient structural integration of the cantilever structure and the ship.
