The MARPOL regulations are in aundergo constant developmentchange to make ships safer and less polluting. ThisThe aim is to decreasereduce the chancerisk of oil spills at sea. The Defence MaterialMateriel Organisation (DMO) of the Royal Netherlands Navy has requested Nevesbu to make a study of the possibilities to modifyfor modifying the Auxiliary Oil Replenishing ship Hr. Ms. Amsterdam so it will complyto ensure its compliance with these the new regulations.

Nevesbu looked intoexamined four alternatives and analysed the consequencestheir effects on cargo capacity, stability and speed. In deliberationconsultation with DMO one of these the alternatives was selected and was further elaborated.worked out in more detail. A cost -and -time estimate was madeproduced in cooperation with Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.
